Who We Are
We are grandmother Nair. The grandmother of everyone.

Some people still have a grandmother like that, and know her value in this very moment. Others never had the luck of knowing one, or lost her too soon. For all of them, this foundation exists: to be the welcome, the word of hope, the story, the roots, and the wisdom of a matriarch who knew so much.

Nair dos Santos was a grandmother to all. We carry her way forward: with the smell of home, with open arms, and with the belelief that every woman, child, and elder deserves to be received like family.
About Us – Our Story
Our Story: Nair dos Santos
The Nair dos Santos Foundation was born from a woman who came from Bahia, of African roots, who carried in her life the strength of those who raise, sustain, and welcome.
Nair was brought to Rio de Janeiro by her family, and there she found a second home. Her mother, Jobina, who, according to family history, was born enslaved, free but inside the slave quarters, came with her children, and one of them was Nair. In Rio, Nair raised her three children, Mariza, Eclair, and Jurandir, and watched many grandchildren grow. A single mother, she learned early that caring is daily work, made of love, patience, and hope.
And she did not care only for her own. In Rio, she became mother of all, voice of all, friend of all, and grandmother of all, a presence that embraced, advised, and opened her door to whoever needed it.
To her children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews, family, brothers and sisters, Nair was and remains an example of resilience . It is this legacy, of love, care, and hope, that the foundation carries in its name and in its mission: to support women who want to transform their lives, and to welcome children and the elderly too, just as Nair welcomed so many around her.

Though her middle son Eclair faced hearing challenges, Nair empowered him to lead an autonomous life despite limited resources for medical aids. Through a specialized vocational program at a Rio mechanical firm, he sustained a long career and lived with dignity. A devoted uncle and compassionate spirit, he never had children of his own, remaining a steadfast companion to Nair throughout her final years.
